Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a six-day diplomatic tour today, encompassing visits to Japan, Papua New Guinea, and Australia. This significant tour is laden with over 40 engagements, including attendance at three major multilateral summits such as the Group of Seven (G7) and the Quad, as per PTI news agency.

The Prime Minister’s itinerary is expected to be filled to the brim as he navigates the gamut of engagements. Modi is anticipated to interact with numerous global leaders during summit meetings and bilateral discussions. Such an intensive visit seeks to bolster India’s foreign relations and affirm its role in addressing international challenges.

The Quad summit, scheduled to take place in Hiroshima, Japan, holds substantial anticipation. It is expected to yield numerous key outcomes, according to Indian authorities. This event will witness the gathering of Prime Minister Modi, US President Joe Biden, and their Japanese and Australian counterparts. These leaders are anticipated to address important issues, including food, fertilizer, and energy security, amongst others.

Modi will proceed to Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea after his visit to Hiroshima. Here, the Prime Minister will jointly host the third Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) summit alongside his counterpart, Prime Minister James Marape, on May 22. This engagement further solidifies India’s strategic presence in the Indo-Pacific region.

Concluding his diplomatic mission, Modi will visit Australia for discussions with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, as well as addressing an event for the Indian diaspora. There are indications that Modi may address recent incidents of attacks on Indians in Australia during his dialogue with Albanese. Through such visits, India continues to strengthen its ties with these key international partners and assert its influence on the global stage.
