MENA Newswire News Desk: As Max Verstappen celebrated his fourth consecutive Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship under the dazzling lights of Las Vegas, the spotlight has now shifted to the tightly contested battle for the Constructors’ Championship, which will culminate in a thrilling finale in Abu Dhabi. McLaren, chasing its first Constructors’ title since 1998, has led the championship since the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in September.

However, Ferrari has steadily eroded that lead with a string of strong performances. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz delivered a dominant one-two finish at the United States Grand Prix and followed up with a victory for Sainz and a podium for Leclerc in Mexico. Their consistency continued with third and fourth-place finishes in Las Vegas, tightening the competition.

In contrast, McLaren has struggled to maintain its early momentum. Lando Norris’ second-place finish in Mexico marked the team’s sole podium appearance in the last four races, a sharp contrast to the earlier triumphs, including Norris’ victory in Singapore. The British team’s sixth and seventh-place finishes in Las Vegas underscored the mounting pressure, especially with Mercedes’ performance shielding Ferrari from greater losses. The result left McLaren with a slim 24-point lead over Ferrari heading into the Qatar Grand Prix.

Ferrari’s momentum carried into Qatar, where Carlos Sainz expressed concerns about the Lusail International Circuit favoring their rivals due to its high-speed corners. However, the Scuderia outperformed expectations, with Leclerc securing second place and Sainz finishing sixth. McLaren’s drivers, Norris and Oscar Piastri, could not match this haul, reducing the British team’s championship lead to just 21 points.

The stage is now set for an electrifying showdown at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. McLaren will need to fend off Ferrari’s late charge to secure the Constructors’ crown, a title the team has not claimed in over two decades. Ferrari, buoyed by its recent form and led by the formidable duo of Leclerc and Sainz, aims to end the season on a high note with a dramatic comeback.

As fans and teams prepare for the decisive race, all eyes are on the contrasting strategies and performances that will determine whether McLaren can finally reclaim its place at the pinnacle of Formula 1 or if Ferrari’s relentless pursuit will yield a stunning victory. The 2024 F1 season finale promises to deliver high-stakes action under the Abu Dhabi night sky.
